Herky is said to be "all about dancing". In the early 1950’s there were few places to dance in Louisville. Herky met with a small group and found a place called Studebaker’s. He, with a little help from his friends, then founded the Derby City Bop Club. After a severe accident, in which he was unable to dance for four years, he made it back to the dance floor. He has served as the DCBA’s Vice President and continued to travel the South spreading the love of dancing. DCBA awarded Herky a lifetime membership in 2005.
